亚瑟•休斯是一位拉斐尔前派的美术家。
有人曾这样评价他的画:”the knife-edge between sentiment and sentimentality” 但因为明亮的用色和细致的细节,休斯的作品并不显得感伤。 他也是一个十分活跃的插画家。

Ophelia    奥菲利娅

休斯笔下的奥菲利娅纤弱优美,宛若林泽女神.

画框上有这样的题诗:
‘There is a willow grows aslant the brook,
That shows his hoar leaves in the glassy stream;
There with fantastic garlands did she come.
Of crow-flowers, nettles, daisies, and long purples.
There on the pendant boughs her coronet weeds
Clambering to hang an envious sliver broke.
When down the weedy trophies and herself
Fell in the weeping brook.’

 

April Love    四月之恋

1856年此画展出时附有丁尼生(Tennyson)的磨坊主的女儿(The Miller’s Daughter)中的诗句作为注释:

‘Love is hurt with jar and fret.

Idle habit links us yet.
What is love? for we forget:
Ah, no! no!’

罗塞蒂(Dante Gabrie Rossetti,1828–1882)或许是拉斐尔前派中最有特色的画家。他是一位杰出的诗人,抒情诗人的气质使他的作品具有了一种颇为动人的梦幻般情调。不拘成法、单纯而又奇特的《圣母领报》(1850),于宗教情绪中揉入了对性爱的迷恋,体现出他艺术的基本特色。

罗塞蒂作品多取材于圣经、希腊神话,但不同于以往描绘神的作品,他既不是让神处于高高在上的地位,也不像文艺复兴时期的画家把神世俗化,罗塞蒂笔下的神仙有人的感情,但比人的感情更纤细,含着天真的喜悦或淡淡的忧郁。罗塞蒂喜用明亮的色彩,人物造型优雅。
